This week we welcomed our newest member of the FitnessGenes team, Dr Pleuni Hooijman.
Pleuni will be joining our science team, applying her doctorate in Physiology from VU Medical Centre, Amsterdam to further our research and help develop our genetically tailored training programs.
She has previously worked at the Biophysics Department at UCSF (San Francisco), and has carried out studies into the muscle fibre strength of Intensive Care patients.
Not just a lab coat...
A competitive triathlete, Pleuni races in the Dutch Premier League. She has also competed in many half and full Ironman’s, and in August claimed first place at Ironman 70.30 Vichy. More recently, Pleuni placed 14th in her age group at the Hawaiian leg of the Ironman World Championships, after qualifying in Barcelona last year with a 9h51 finish.
“The FitnessGenes team has a great positive and welcoming energy. I’m very pleased to contribute to the science behind our training and nutrition plans, using my knowledge as a physiologist and my experience as a triathlete”.
Pleuni’s first task has been to work alongside Paul and Geraldine as they start to structure our new set of genetically tailored training programs, ready for release in early 2016.
