FitnessGenes are now part of the Test to Release Scheme

FitnessGenes are proud to announce that we’re one of the approved COVID-19 test providers on the government’s Test to Release for International Travel scheme.

Currently, anyone travelling into England from outside the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man has to self-isolate for 10 days on arrival.

Under the new Test to Release scheme, launched on the 15th December 2020, you can take a FitnessGenes COVID-19 saliva test and shorten your self-isolation period to just 5 days.

How does the scheme work?

The Test to Release for International Travel scheme allows passengers travelling to England to pay for a private COVID-19 test. If the results come back negative, you can stop self-isolating early.

You can only take the test after 5 full days of self-isolation following your arrival in England.

Why 5 days?  According to government guidance, “this is because a test after 5 days of self-isolation provides materially better results than having one on arrival, as it allows time for the virus – should it be present – to incubate, helping reduce the risk of a false negative result.”

To take part in the scheme, you will need book a test with a private provider, ideally before you travel to England. You also need to fill out an online Passenger Locator Form, which will allow you to enter the test provider and booking reference details.

You can find more details on the government Test to Release scheme website.

(Please note that Test to Release scheme only applies to England at present. Passengers arriving in Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland are ineligible for the scheme and must self-isolate for 10 days on arrival. Similarly, the Test to Release scheme is not available to passengers arriving from a country on the UK travel ban list).

How do I take part in the scheme with FitnessGenes?

Step 1:

Order a COVID-19 saliva test with FitnessGenes.

You can do this before travelling to England, or, if you prefer, after you have arrived in England.

At the Checkout, select Test to Release and fill out the Test to Release form/questionnaire with your details. Once the form is completed, we’ll provide you with a unique booking reference number to enter into your Passenger Locator Form (see step 2).

Step 2:

Fill out the government Passenger Locator Form online.

You will be asked to provide your passport details, travel times and dates, UK address (if applicable), and your test booking reference number and test provider details.

You can submit the form online anytime in the 48 hours before arriving in the UK. Once you submit the form, you’ll receive a QR code via email, which you can present to border authorities.

If you choose to order a FitnessGenes COVID-19 test after arrival in the UK, you will need to update your Passenger Locator Form details.

Step 3:

Receive your FitnessGenes COVID-19 saliva test kit at your UK address.

For Test to Release customers, we’ll aim for the kit to arrive on the 5th day of your quarantine period, in line with UK government guidance.

(Note that if the 5th day of your quarantine falls on a Sunday, you will receive the kit the following Monday).

Otherwise, orders received before 3pm (or 1pm Saturdays) can be dispatched same day by Royal Mail guaranteed next day delivery service.

Step 4:

Provide a saliva sample in the collection tube.

Remember, the earliest you can do this is 5 full days after you have arrived in England.

Once your saliva sample is collected, send it back to us at no additional cost using our prepaid Royal Mail Tracked 24 service, or via a Next Day Delivery service for a guaranteed delivery time.

Step 5:

Receive your results.

Normally this is within 8-36 hours of receipt of your saliva sample at our laboratory.

We’ll text you your results by SMS text message and you’ll also receive a certificate on your online FitnessGenes portal.

If you test negative, you are free to stop self-isolating immediately.

If you test positive, you will have to self-isolate for 10 days from when your symptoms started or, if you have not had any symptoms, for 10 days from when you provided your saliva sample.
